NYFW Fall 2020 Trend Report

When it’s as cold as it’s been outside, gathering the courage to spend any time outside on the streets of New York is more than a struggle. So I wouldn’t blame you if you completely missed all of the New York Fashion Week festivities going on. In fact, following fashion week in general can be incredibly taxing this time of year. Things are in full swing at work, there are plenty of other pop culture events to follow (Oscars, we see you), and fashion week might be totally off your radar. I get it. Which is why I’ve humbly taken it upon myself to scour the shows and put together a bite sized trend report for you to reference at your next social gathering 😉. Get ready for some trends and a whole lot of personification…

1. Bold Capes
Not all superheroes wear capes, but it seems like all fashionistas will by fall 2020! This staple piece was littered across shows like Adam Lippes, Anna Sui, Libertine, Michael Kors, and Oscar de la Renta. They weren’t your average cape however - they were bold and often loud, just demanding to become a noticed trend. But you don’t have to be ostentatious to own this trend. If you’re a little more understated, consider investing in a neutral colored cape for the fall. They are a perfect transitional piece after all!

2. Glamorous Gloves

Gloves have been an overlooked accessory for a while now, but they’re coming back in a big way in fall 2020. They’re no longer just for debutant balls and Marilyn Monroe – no,no, long sleeved gloves are every gals new go-to! Anna Sui, LaQuan Smith, Marc Jacobs, and Prabal Gurung all highlighted this trend in their shows and I’m pretty pumped that function has also become form (aka it will look chic for us cover our freezing arms and hands next fall!)

3. Gooey Green
It’s never been so easy to be green come this fall! The color certainly had a presence on the catwalks during NYFW. Green was abundant in all shades, but particularly in this gooey green type of hue. Acne Studios, Christian Cowan, Christian Siriano, and Brandon Maxwell all sported this interesting green in their shows. Green is my personal favorite color, although I tend to lean towards a more emerald or olive shade. I’m curious to see how this gooey green trend will manifest in a few months!
